The oil pump assembly, as you are aware, is of critical importance - without a full supply of lubricating, cooling (and that is important on all engines) oil the newly refurbished engine will suffer excessive wear and even possible damage.
Replace as many of the old components that make up the assembly with new - better to be safe, than suffer a wrecked engine due to oil pump failure!
